I present this list, worst to best, with no commentary.

Royals: 681 wins
Pirates: 705 wins
Mariners: 718 wins
Orioles: 736 wins
Expos (they left Montreal/Puerto Rico after 2004)/Nationals: 743 wins

  1. Each of these teams are, at least, in various stages of approaching contention, or coming off recent playoff appearances — maybe proof that baseball is inching closer toward achieving parity?

  2. For some reason I wouldn’t have guessed that the Orioles or the Expos / Nats would have been among the five worst. I might have guessed that either Cleveland, the Cubbies, or Padres might have made the list.

  3. East Coast bias! No, probably recency basis: it’s easy to forget those three teams made the playoffs in the middle 200s, even to forget the Indians made it last year since they were out so fast. The Brewers must be right up there, it’s been a long time since they had several good years in a row.
